Storms Moving Out After Bringing Heavy Rain, Lightning and Hail Overnight

NBCUniversal, Inc.

A night of thunderstorms brought hail, lightning, heavy rain and power outages to North Texas. NBC 5’s Ben Russell shares pictures and videos shared by NBC 5 viewers.

Thunderstorms that brought heavy rain, lightning and large hail to North Texas overnight are coming to an end.

NBC 5 Weather Expert Keisha Burns said heavy rain and lightning were widespread with the main threats being localized flooding and some isolated hail.

The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center on Thursday included Dallas-Fort Worth in a marginal risk for severe storms due to the threat of hail up to the size of quarters. No tornadoes or strong winds were expected.

Early Friday, Oncor Electric Delivery reported thousands of its customers were without power across the DFW area. In its online outage map, Oncor said the outages were due to frequent lightning and hail and crews are working to restore power to those who have been impacted.

According to Oncor, the number of customers experiencing outages is as follows as of 3 a.m.

Tarrant County: 9,598
Collin County: 524
Dallas County: 1,176
Denton County: 336
