Severe weather threat across North Texas Thursday, here's what you need to know

Another storm system arrives after Christmas

NBC Universal, Inc.

There is a chance of severe weather across North Texas on Thursday as a storm system moves in from the west.

As a dryline surges into the area, showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop by Thursday morning. The prime time for strong storms in DFW will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

DFW is under a Marginal (Level 1) risk for severe storms. That threat increases to Slight (Level 2) for areas east and southeast of Dallas.

The primary threats are lightning, heavy rainfall, ย wind gusts to 60 mph, and hail up to the size of quarters. Tornadoes canโ€™t be completely ruled out in east Texas, but the threat is low.

The severe weather threat should end by late afternoon for most of the area as a cold front swings into the area. But some wrap-around showers are possible into the early evening.
