NBC 5 Forecast: A chill in the air, followed by milder weather

Chilliest morning since April 22

NBCUniversal, Inc.

The coldest air since last April has settled into North Texas this early Thursday morning. Widespread 40s have been common (even a few upper 30s to the east)! This morning chill will quickly give way to the 60s by afternoon and a brief high in the lower 70s by late afternoon. Skies will be mostly sunny and there won't be much wind. In summary, it will be another gorgeous fall day!

Unfortunately, the jet stream isn't doing us any favors when it comes to rain chances. So far, so dry for the month of October. DFW has not recorded any rain through the first 16 days and through the next week it's not looking any better.

As the drought worsens, the grass-fire threat will be high as well. Just a small spark could get a grass-fire going quickly.

Warmer weather looks to build toward the weekend and especially next week when the upper 80s will likely return.
