Arrest warrant affidavits obtained by NBC 5 explain why the Texas Rangers suspected fraudulent inspection stations were getting cover from DPS insiders. The affidavits detail more than $100,000 in alleged illicit payments to one DPS employee.

NBC 5 Investigates has learned stunning new details about the arrests made last week during an investigation into fake emissions inspections.

The warrant paperwork details how the Texas Rangers used bank records to uncover the alleged bribes paid to one of the two DPS employees. The warrants also describe how a DPS Tactical Unit raided the business at the center of the investigation making arrests, seizing vehicle inspection records, a loaded gun, and thousands of doses of psychedelic mushrooms.

Some air quality experts fear widespread fraud in the state’s emissions testing program may add to DFW’s dirty air.

Two Texas Department of Public Safety employees have been arrested. NBC 5 senior investigative reporter Scott Friedman reports they’re accused of taking cash in exchange for helping inspection stations, suspected of running fake vehicle emissions tests, falsely passing cars.

The Texas Senate voted Sunday night to advance a bill that would kill vehicle safety inspections. But, an amendment added to the bill would push back the end of inspections by two years, until 2025.
