Southbound Interstate 45 just north of Corsicana was closed for four hours Thursday morning after a pickup hit a DPS patrol vehicle and two troopers who were helping a disabled vehicle. Both troopers were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Drivers traveling southbound on Interstate 45 south of Dallas Thursday morning faced a big traffic backup north of Corsicana.
All lanes of southbound I-45 were closed at Business 45 for about four hours after a crash where two Texas DPS state troopers were hit while assisting a disabled tractor-trailer.

One lane reopened at about 10:45 a.m., but clearing the five-mile traffic backup will take time. Drivers were urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes until all lanes reopened around noon.
The Texas Department of Public Safety said at about 6:40 a.m. two troopers were outside their cruiser when a pickup truck hit the patrol unit and then hit the two troopers.

The Rice Volunteer Fire Department posted photos showing major damage to the DPS cruiser. It had no front driver-side wheel, and the push bumper was partially torn away.

Both troopers were taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. The driver of the pickup was not injured.
