Will Mikolas Continue Up-Down Trend?

If Miles Mikolas stays true to form in his ninth career start on Tuesday night in Miami, the Texas Rangers might be on track for a pretty solid outing from their young starter.

Mikolas, who is one of many spare parts being used on the Rangers pitching staff this year after injuries have decimated their projected rotation, is coming off an outing in which he allowed 10 earned runs in six innings on a night when he was basically just left out there to get through six innings no matter how badly he was being battered.

But if Mikolas keeps up like he has this year, it could mean good things are in store on Tuesday.

The big righty, who will turn 26 on Saturday, had a decent start prior to his last one and a pretty spectacular one before that, when he threw seven innings and allowed just two runs in a tough-luck loss to the Indians. Two starts before that, Mikolas worked 7 1/3 innings and allowed two runs in a win over the Yankees. Of course, sandwiched between those two outings was a 4 2/3-inning, 8-run outing against the A's.

So what are the Rangers going to get in Miami?
