Locked out of team facilities this offseason, the NFL’s players have been forced to scramble to find a place to workout. For most folks, this is a public gym, a high school or college facility. ... But Dallas Cowboys All-Pro linebacker DeMarcus Ware chose a slightly more unorthodox setting for his offseason workouts.
Ware has set up shop in the service center of an abandoned Hummer dealership. He detailed his new digs in a piece in the Sporting News recently, entitled “How I’m Spending My Lockout.”
“I’ve been spending a lot of time lately in the service department of a Hummer dealership in Grapevine, Texas, not too far from the DFW Airport and Valley Ranch, the Cowboys’ headquarters. And I don’t even own a Hummer,” Ware said.
“Actually, the dealership is closed. I know the owner, and he was gracious enough to let me turn the service area into a makeshift gym so I can stay in shape during the lockout. We’ve probably got some of the best weight-lifting equipment around the league in there, including free-motion weights which a guy donated, ropes and a device called ‘The Flipper’ which simulates a tire that you can flip.”
Linebackers Brandon Williams, Victor Butler Anthony Spencer, fullback Chris Gronkowski, offensive tackle Robert Brewster and defensive end Stephen Bowen have all joined Ware for workouts at the dealership.
“I told them they could work out for free for the first month,” Ware joked. “After that, they've got to start paying monthly dues.
“Hey, I've got to pay rent, you know?”
