Texas Stadium More Than a Building for Couple

A North Texas couple returned with their 6-year-old daughter in tow to create one last memory at the place where their life together began.

The iconic Texas Stadium in Irving was the home of the Cowboys, but it also played host to everything from rock concerts to religious revivals in its 35 years.

"This is probably the closest we could get," said Val Lenington to her husband, Eric, as the two stood looking at the sunset on Texas stadium Friday evening.

"It's our last time to see Texas Stadium," she said.

The couple met for the first time at a trade show at the stadium 16 years ago.

"It certainly has some special memories for us," Eric Lenington said.

"My heart raced a little, yeah, it did," said his wife with a laugh.

The two married a couple of years later.

"Driving here tonight was very sad, because this is such a landmark for us and to have it not be here is just sad," Val Lenington said.

When the stadium implodes Sunday, they won't be anywhere nearby.

"I'm not going to watch the implosion," Eric Lenington said.

They said it would almost be like watching an important piece of their history come crashing to the ground. Instead, hand-in-hand, they remembered Texas Stadium as the landmark of their lives and a place they'll never forget.

"We're going to miss it, a lot."
