Every year, before the baseball season begins, Baseball America releases its Top 100 prospects entering the upcoming season. In recent years, the Texas Rangers have landed their fair share of guys on the highly regarded list, and 2014 is no different.
The top-ranked Rangers prospect heading into the season is second baseman Rougned Odor, who is getting a look at spring training with the big boys and could possibly end up opening the year in Arlington if a few things go horribly wrong, most namely Jurickson Profar's shoulder not improving. Odor checked in on the list at No. 42 at the tender age of 20.
Next up is probably the Rangers' most highly touted prospect in catcher Jorge Alfaro (No. 54), who seems to be one of the can't-miss catcher prospects who now has the luxury of having Pudge Rodriguez and Bengie Molina in the organization to work with him.
At No. 60 is slugging third baseman Joey Gallo, who led the minor-league world in home runs and has out-of-this-world power, and outfielder Nick Williams checks in at No. 97, one spot ahead of new Rangers property Michael Choice, was brought from Oakland in December via a trade for Craig Gentry.
Choice is the most likely to see considerable time in Arlington this year, as he's expected to compete for a platoon DH/fourth outfielder job. Odor and Alfaro are the most exciting two, with Alfaro probably getting the nod due to the fact the Rangers have been looking for a franchise catcher since Pudge was winning MVP awards.
