Parcells Defends Jerry Jones' GM Work

Bill Parcells spent four seasons under Jerry Jones in Dallas

Like the rest of us, former Cowboys head coach and Pro Football Hall of Famer Bill Parcells doesn’t see Jerry Jones ever giving up the reins as general manager. Unlike most of the rest of us, it seems, Parcells believes Jones has done a pretty good job in the role.

“Well, what all of us believe, or think, it’s not going to happen in Dallas,” Parcells told ESPN Radio’s Mike & Mike, via the Dallas Morning News. “I think Jerry’s going to be the guy that’s the general manager. He’s got it set up that way. He’s got people he relies on, and quite frankly, it’s been reasonably successful for him. That’s the way he wants to do it, it’s his priority, he owns the team. And he has every right to do it the way he wants to.”

Parcells took the Cowboys to the playoffs twice in his four seasons here but, lately, Dallas has been the model of mediocrity. They’ve been really close several times, but haven’t made the playoffs since 2009, and have gone 8-8 in each of the past three seasons.
