ESPN Draft expert Todd McShay published his “Best Pick/Questionable Pick” for all 32 teams in the NFL this week, and he had a kind of surprising opinion on who the Cowboys’ greatest value pick was; that’d be Gavin Escobar, the tight end and second rounder out of San Diego State.
McShay said that Escobar had the best hands of any tight end in the draft, in his estimation. And maybe so. But Dallas all ready has a likely Hall of Famer in Jason Witten and a second-year man, James Hanna--who they seem to be pretty high on--at that position.
For his “Questionable” pick, McShay went with first rounder (31st overall) Travis Frederick, a center out of Wisconsin. Like seemingly everyone else, McShay doesn’t have any problem with Frederick as a player, he just thinks No. 31 was way too high for him to go.
That said, it appears that Frederick will step into a starting job in his rookie season, and the Cowboys needed that.
