Matt Forte Says Cowboys Showed Significant Interest

Forte signed a three-year deal with the New York Jets last week

The Matt Forte sweepstakes wrapped up five days ago, with the New York Jets signing the eight-year veteran to a three-year, $12 million deal, and at his introductory press conference with the team this week, he named the Cowboys as one of the teams to express significant interest in his services.

Per JoeBucsFan.com, the other was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and aside from those more serious bidders, Forte said the Patriots and Packers both expressed minor interest.

The Cowboys are still trying to figure out what to do at the running back position, with Lance Dunbar taking free agent visits and Joseph Randle out of football.

Free agency has been less than kind to the Cowboys where the backfield is concerned, as they’ve already missed on big names like Lamar Miller and Doug Martin, as well as not-so-big names like Bilal Powell, which causes us to wonder if the team won’t be left to address the position through the draft.
