Martinez Hoping to Shut Down Struggling Offense

The Minnesota Twins are one of the worst offenses going right now in baseball, and it's shown in the standings as they've plummeted out of a Wild Card spot and after Tuesday's win over Texas have won just three of their last 10 games.

Entering the Rangers series, no Twins regular was hitting .300 or better over the last week, and they still managed to score just three runs on Tuesday only after Jake Diekman came in throwing 97-mph heat right down the pipe with no movement.

Martinez had one of his better starts in a while two outings ago against a good Giants team when he went 6 2/3 innings and allowed just two runs, beating Madison Bumgarner. In his last start, he beat Scott Kazmir when he lasted just five innings but gave up only one run.

He's due for a good, deep outing reminiscent of the ones he was throwing out there early in the season, and if there was ever a team to do it again, it just might be this Twins team.
