Awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to mortgage fraud, former Dallas Cowboys’ linebacker Eugene Lockhart was hospitalized for 22 days after falling seriously ill in the federal prison at Seagoville, Texas.
According to the report, Lockhart was transferred back to the prison on Saturday, but, after falling ill again shortly thereafter, Lockhart’s attorney Jay Ethington has filed a motion asking that Lockhart be allowed to serve time at his home, where he could get proper medical treatment.
Court documents show that on December 30, an ambulance was called to the prison to attend to a medical emergency. Lockhart was transported to a nearby hospital, then, after he "acquired a septic infection" to a larger hospital, where he remained until last weekend.
"After three days, he was transferred to a larger facility that could provide more specialized treatment," Ethington says in the motion, per the Dallas Morning News.
After the second medical scare, Lockhart is once more at a local hospital, but he could be returned to prison in the coming days, Ethington said.
"The seriousness of Mr. Lockhart's medical condition will very likely require appropriate and immediate medical attention in the future," Ethington continued. "This will best be facilitated on a home confinement basis."
Though Ethington has filed the motion, no hearing date has been scheduled.
