Dallas Cowboys tight end James Hanna has had a quiet season where the stat book is concerned, but that doesn’t mean he has a very real impact on the offense, according to head coach Jason Garrett.
This impact has been felt exclusively in the blocking game, as Hanna has no catches on just one target in 2014.
“I think he’s a good player in the run game and a good player in the pass game," Garrett said, per ESPN Dallas. "I think he’s under-appreciated athletically, and I think he’s getting better technically as blocker.
“He’s a young player who continues to grow. He wants to be a good player and there’s a reason he’s playing. He’s worthy of having opportunities. We ask him to do a lot of things and some of it’s not fancy stuff that’s glamorous -- it’s some of the dirty work -- but he embraces it and gets better at it.”
Hanna was drafted by the Cowboys out of Oklahoma back in 2012 and, to date, has 20 catches and is still looking for his first career touchdown.
