Everson Walls Reacts To Springs' Death

A little over three years after slipping into a coma during a minor surgical procedure to remove a cyst from his arm, former Cowboys’ fullback Ron Springs passed away on Thursday at the age of 54.

Springs and teammate and best friend Everson Walls--a former defensive back for Dallas--became the subject of national headlines back in 2007, when Walls donated his kidney to Springs.

Walls described himself as “angry” on Thursday night, which marked the end of a long ordeal for Walls, the Springs family and countless teammates and friends who held out hope for Springs until the end.

"Any emotions I have is because of the sadness his family is feeling right now," Walls said, per the Dallas Morning News. "To me they were the who would have liked to talk to him more than anybody. That cuts really deep."

Tony Dorsett, the man for whom Springs blocked in his years in Dallas, received the news via text message on Thursday.

"I thought he would one day be Ron again," Dorsett said. "I'm in shock about it."
