There are several players the Texas Rangers are rumored to be in on this winter — seemingly every possible player on the market, actually. That's what happens when you're an aggressive, yet clandestine front office like the Rangers, you're rumored to be in on everything.
One of the biggest names the Rangers are rumored to be tied to is Tampa Bay Rays ace David Price, who would require a trade to land, and a big trade at that.
The Rangers have the pieces to acquire Price. It would most likely take Jurickson Profar and others, or Elvis Andrus and others including their top pitching prospect in Luke Jackson and probably another high-level prospect. The Rays might even want Martin Perez, but that's not happening.
Price is a great pitcher, as he showed the Rangers in that AL Wild Card tiebreaker game when he shut an anemic Texas offense down in a complete-game effort in a personal hell that was Rangers Ballpark.
But what do the Rangers need more? An ace, or a big bat, or two?
The Rangers have their ace. His name is Yu Darvish and he finished second in the AL Cy Young balloting. They also have plenty of support for Darvish in Derek Holland, Matt Harrison and Martin Perez. Could they use another pitcher to plug into the rotation behind Darvish? Sure. But could they use an impact bat or two more? You bet.
Price's addition would be a big splash this winter, and it would undoubtedly give the Rangers the best 1-2 punch, and arguably the best rotation in the American League. But the Rangers have to score more runs than they did in 2013, and David Price won't help them in that department.
