Byron Jones Calls Rookie Season “Good Wake-Up Call”

Jones was selected 27th overall by the Cowboys in last year's draft

Dallas Cowboys defensive back Byron Jones learned a lot over the course of his rookie year, as most rookies do we’d imagine, but one lesson stood out to the UConn product.

“… I think it was a good wake-up call for me. Just to be out there and understand that athleticism is not gonna carry you,” Jones told 105.3-FM The Fan, via the Dallas Morning News. “You gotta be good at football.

“You gotta have football skill. The best thing about this year for me was I saw myself getting better and understanding more as the season went on.

"Definitely optimistic going forward, but a lot of things to be worked on to move forward in becoming a great football player, not just a good football player.”

Jones recorded 66 tackles and eight passes defended in 2015, while being moved back and forth from safety to cornerback and back again. He didn’t record an interception, though he came close, with one being overturned upon review.
