Dixon Suffers Strained Groin

The Dallas Morning News has reported that defensive end Marcus Dixon went down during this morning's practice with what was later revealed to be a strained groin.

Dixon spent last season on the practice squad after being signed as an undrafted free agent out of Hampton.

The injury will deal a considerable blow to Dixon's chances of making the 53 man roster, which is unfortunate considering that Dixon had been having a promising camp, one which some thought would lead to some regular season playing time.

Wade Phillips remarked recently in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, "He's come a long way."

This is true; Dixon suffered a back injury that greatly limited his effectiveness in his rookie year. After extensive work with strength and conditioning Joe Juraszek, though, Dixon entered camp this season bulked up to 290 pounds and looking every bit like an NFL defensive end.

Regardless of the amount of time he will miss due to the injury, Dixon is looking at an uphill battle from this point. Dallas carried four defensive ends in 2008, and including Dixon, six remain in camp.
