Itโs just your typical Monday in early March at Argyle High School. Class is in session and the girls basketball team just got done teaching the rest of the state another lesson.
The Lady Eagles beat Sour Lake Hardin by eight giving them their 5th straight state title.
โWe never talked about going for five in a row,โ said Argyle head coach Chance Westmoreland, โWe just wanted to play the best basketball we could day in, day out and these girls , they did that.โ
The victorious weekend was not without some nervous moments. Rhyle McKinneyโs clutch free throws followed by a last second stop securing a win over Dallas Lincoln in the state semifinals.
Argyle is only the third team in Texas girls basketball history to win five straight state championships. At this rate, the Lady Eagles are going to need a bigger trophy case.
โIt makes me feel really great that I get to contribute to all that,โ said Argyle guard Brooklyn Carl, adding โEvery time someone talks about Argyle wins a lot, Iโm glad that Iโm a part of it.โ
The Lady Eaglesโ accomplishment is also a tribute to the entire Argyle community. โThat just shows the Argyle ISD as a whole because weโve been fortunate to win a lot of sports and extra-curricular activities,โ said Westmoreland, also pointing out, โI think the expectation is there and the kids strive to be excellent.โ
