After the success of his BBC show "The Office" (which, of course, was remade on this side of the pond into - we think it's safe to say - a pretty successful series) and his HBO series "Extras," comedian Ricky Gervais appears to be jumpstarting a brand new TV venture.
On his personal blog, Gervais recounts how he has gotten to know Clyde Philips - producer of the groundbreaking Showtime series "Dexter" - and how that relationship has bloomed into a collaboration.
“Dexter has consistently been my favorite show of the last five years. When I first saw Clyde’s name all over it I knew I had to work with him one day," he writes. “I found out he was also a fan of my work and we then became friends on email and through short conversations on various red carpets. We finally started working on an idea this year and really hit it off. I am so excited about this project.”
The sitcom is reportedly going to be called "Afterlife," and it's about an atheist who ends up dying and going to Heaven.
Gervais, of course, is a noted non-believer, even penning an atheism-themed editorial (and answering reader questions) for the New York Times last year.
Philips and Gervais are planning on filming the pilot, which has been written, early next year according to The Hollywood Reporter.
