Flight Leaving Fort Lauderdale Delayed, Passengers Evacuated After Possible Bomb Scare

A passenger on a Spirit Airlines flight reported seeing a text possibly referencing a bomb on another passenger’s phone at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport Sunday.

Passengers aboard a flight leaving from Florida's Fort Lauderdale / Hollywood International Airport for Dallas were delayed after a “suspicious” conversation caused an evacuation.

Spirit Airlines Flight 971 was scheduled to take off at 8:15 p.m. Sunday, but was held after a passenger reported seeting text possibly referenceing a bomb on another passenger's cell phone, according to Broward Sheriff's Public Information Office.

BSO deputies were called to the scene, removing both men from the plane for questioning along with agents from the FBI.

Passengers were removed from the plane shortly afterward before being re-screened and eventually let back on. No arrests were made.

The flight would eventually leave shortly after 2:30 a.m., landing at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport just after 5 a.m.
