Melissa McCarthy emerged as the secret weapon in "Bridesmaids," coming out of nowhere to go over-the-top whenever the move started to lose steam. It's a performance that's quickly paying dividends.
McCarthy has joined the cast of Judd Apatow's next film, a spin-off of "Knocked Up," according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film will star Leslie Mann and Paul Rudd respiring their roles from the 2007 comedy.
She'll play the mother of a kid--to be played by Ryan Lee, the pyromaniac from "Super 8"--who goes to the same school as Mann and Rudd's kids. Albert Brooks and Megan Fox are also said to have roles in the film.
If you haven't seen the outtakes from "Bridesmaids" over at Funny or Die, which feature about 30 seconds of McCarthy riffing on bridal party ideas, you should check 'em out, but be warned they are wildly profane.
