The death of a 43-year-old woman whose body was found in a Plano creek Saturday morning was the result of a random attack, police say.
Officers found the body of Sarmistha Sen, 43, when they responded to a call at about 7:12 a.m. near the creek by Legacy Drive and Marchman Way.
In an update on Sunday, Plano police said the death was a random attack. The cause of death is currently unknown, but Sen was not shot, police said.
Police said Sen was known to go out for a jog in the mornings and at some point she encountered an individual and sustained life-threatening injuries.
Around the same time, officers were also called about a burglary in the 3400 block of Michael Drive, less than 100 yards away from where Sen's body was found.
A person of interest, identified as Bakari Abiona Moncrief, was taken into custody and booked into the Plano City Jail on a burglary charge, police said.
Moncrief, 29, lives out of state and was visiting relatives who live in North Texas, police said.
