White Buns, Texas Toast Unavailable at Whataburger and Raising Cane's Restaurants

Several top fast food chains have a problem with their buns and toast. Raising Cane’s, Whataburger and In-N-Out have pulled their white buns or Texas toast from their menus. The restaurants hope the bread will be back Thursday.

On Wednesday, Whataburger announced via Twitter that some restaurants will not be offering white buns or Texas Toast, due to a quality issue with a supplier.

Later in the day, Raising Cane's released a similar statement concerning the restaurant's Texas toast. "It just didn't taste as good as it normally did," said Cane's Vice President of Operations, Tommy Van Wolfe. "It didn't taste perfect, and if it's not perfect, we don't serve it."

Cane's told NBC 5 the taste issue caught the company off guard. Customers felt the same way. "I need Texas toast, OK," said Valerie Jackson as she waited in the drive-through line. "We're in Texas!"

Whataburger posted this memo outside one of their DFW restaurants Wednesday.

This comes following the two-day closing of all Texas In-N-Out stores due to an issue with their hamburger buns.

Both fast food chains claim this is not a health issue, but merely a quality standard.

Whataburger released the following statement:

“We voluntarily removed white buns and Texas Toast from some of our restaurants in the DFW area, East and West Texas, Oklahoma and Northwest Arkansas because of a quality issue with one of our suppliers. There’s no health risk at all, rather an impact on our bun’s flavor caused by an unbalance in the yeast, and we want to make sure our customers get the best product.

We understand this is frustrating to our loyal customers and apologize to those impacted by the shortage. We’re happy to make any burger or sandwich using a wheat bun, flour tortilla or bun-less on a platter at no extra charge. Customers visiting a restaurant experiencing a shortage of buns can enjoy extended breakfast hours until 1pm today.

Our bread is baked daily and our teams are working around the clock to deliver fresh buns today and we look forward to getting back to business as usual just as soon as we can.”

Raising Cane's released the following statement:

"At Raising Cane’s, we never sacrifice quality and because of this, our Texas restaurants are regrettably not serving our Texas toast. This is not a food safety issue. Our bread delivery did not meet our high quality standards for taste and therefore we are offering customers a substitution of another side item or additional chicken finger. We are hoping to have this resolved by tomorrow."
