What Are the Words to the TCU Chant?

NBC 5 Sports

As Texas Christian University takes the national stage the three letters TCU are becoming more well known and no doubt people are learning about Horned Frogs too.

But there's a chant that many are learning for the first time. It's called the Riff Ram chant, you may have heard it while watching NBC 5 Today Monday morning as NBC 5 TCU alum Deborah Ferguson closed out the newscast on her way to catch a flight to see the Horned Frogs play at SoFi Stadium.

NBC 5's TCU alum Deborah Ferguson delivers the TCU Chant to close out NBC 5 Today.

TCU says it's one of the nation's oldest known chants dating back to at least the 1920s.

The words are:

"Riff, Ram, Bah Zoo

Lickety, Lickety, Zoo, Zoo

Who, Wah, Wah, Who

Give 'em Hell, TCU."

Hype videos of the chant are displayed on the big screen before kickoff at Amon G. Carter Stadium before every home game. They all end with TCU alum and legends like Bob Lilly, Sean Payton, Ladanian Tomlinson and Andy Dalton proclaiming "give 'em hell TCU!"

TCU Magazine writes that the cheer has changed and evolved through the years and an early version with slightly different words appears in a 1905 Horned Frog yearbook.

The shirts are my dads football picture from when he played in the early 70’s. His favorite band was journey. Don’t stop believin was played at the home games this year. My mom Bitsy Faulk and I wore our shirts to the game. My dad, Tim Faulk, passed January 13, 2022. He was a lifelong Frog and has had the best seat to every game this season!

This guy right here. Not only does he make me proud as a Horned Frog but more importantly, he makes me proud as a parent. Our boys signed up to play flag football and walked into their first practice in the Spring to meet their coach. A tall TCU student walked over and introduced himself then started coaching. He knew all the boys names within the first practice. He allowed the boys to make and call plays. He gave equal playing time to each boy. He ran up and down the field with the plays, cheering on our boys.
He didn’t take this coaching position to pad his resume because let’s be honest, he didn’t even know if he was going to be QB1. But he made a huge impact on ten 9 year old boys. They’ve cheered on Coach Max all season. They cried at the Big12 loss. But they have become Coach Max’s biggest fans, cheerleaders, and supporters. They look up to him: his character, his perseverance, and his strength.
THANK YOU Coach Max for teaching our boys about what it means to be on a team. They’ll never forget you and the team, Duggan’s Destroyers! 💜

Lori & Gus Moreland
Back in 2016 I had just started dating a Horned Frog named Gus Moreland. I’m a Georgia graduate so I challenged him with “if Georgia and TCU make it to a bowl game, would ya take me?”. He cavalierly said “Sure.” Well lo and behold we ended up in the Liberty Bowl and when he asked me “Do you really think we should go?” I said, are you kidding me? We aren’t spring chickens anymore! This isn’t going to happen in our lifetime again, so OF COURSE we should go! And we did. Lo and behold, six years later (and married for three) we are fortunate enough to be heading to the National Championship for another celebration of our House Divided: Dawgs & Frogs! Here is the link to the story you ran during the morning news on the day of Liberty Bowl in 2016. https://www.facebook.com/gus.moreland/videos/543403911039765
Fun times! Thank you for the coverage, Katie Blakey. We had people texting us all morning when the spot ran!

Please find a precious photo of my family, taken at the Fiesta Bowl this year by an unknown TCU family, sitting 2 rows behind them. This picture was captured when the family, was taking a picture of the field right after the big TCU win. The family was so kind & thoughtful to ask if they could send them the photo, which touched their hearts as well. The picture is of my daughter, Amanda Leshner, my son-in-law, Michael Leshner and my grandson, Noah from Benbrook Texas.Such a sweet and emotional photo showing the love, support and happiness they have for our TCU Frogs and this big win!

Bobbie A Baird
My dad, Buddy Baird, is a huge TCU fan. He didn’t go to school there but has lived in Fort Worth for more than 50 years and his daughter (me, Bobbie Baird) and his money did go there. He celebrated his 90th birthday on December 7th at Westmore Senior Living where the staff and all of the residents wore their purple TCU outfits to match his daily apparel. There were TCU balloons, music, and a TCU BD cake. The Big 12 Championship game was on Dec 3rd and the cake was ordered ahead of the game for his party on the 7th. The cake said “Big 12 Champions TCU”. He said it wasn’t a mistake, it was in early preparation for next year! On Monday night, he will be (as he says) “hooting and hollering loud enough for the Froggies to hear him all the way out in Los Angeles”! Go Froggies!
