Weekend Weather May Affect Plans

Unseasonably warm weather will continue through Christmas, but be ready for some heavy rain this weekend.

Unseasonably warm weather will continue through Christmas, but be ready for some heavy rain this weekend.

TxDot and the NTTA are closely watching the conditions for the weekend, especially as rainfall totals were expected to likely reach three to five inches across the region.

According to NTTA spokesman Michael Rey, road crews were alerted to be on standby Sunday.

Families traveling for the holidays are already planning ahead.

"If we do run into really bad weather, we're not urgently in need to get back home," said David Liller. He and his family are in the middle of a Texas road trip from Michigan.

"If one of our routes of the state take us through a low area that maybe impacted by rain, we'll stay in Texas longer," Liller said.

Officials with Prairie Lights in Grand Prairie were also watching the forecast closely as officials expected big crowds through the next week.

"We'll judge it and assess it day by day. Public safety is number one," said Beverly Grogan, community events coordinator at the City of Grand Prairie. "We feel like this weekend's forecast absolutely poses no danger and we plan to be open every day through Jan. 3."
