Virus Creates Driver's License Backlog

A computer virus is being blamed for a backlog in processing new driver's license.

The usual two-week wait for a new license is now up to six weeks, The Texas Department of Public Safety said.

“We wanted to make sure we knew what we were dealing with and that information was not going to get corrupted," DPS spokesperson Tela Mange told KHOU.com. "The good news is it wasn't."

Mange said DPS has people working overtime to get caught up on the five days of lost production that the virus caused.

DPS is asking drivers to be patient and local police departments to be lenient with drivers who have expired temporary permits.
