Texas State Rep. Marc Veasey has been elected to Congress to serve in a new U.S. House district in North Texas.
Veasey beat Republican Chuck Bradley Tuesday.
Veasey is a state representative from Fort Worth who emerged from an 11-candidate primary and won a runoff in July for the Democratic nomination. He will represent a district that includes parts of west Dallas, Fort Worth and a handful of the cities in between.
The district is heavily Latino and Democratic. It was created during the recent redrawing of congressional maps.
Veasey was a strong favorite to beat Bradley after defeating Dallas Democratic activist Domingo Garcia in July.
