Two Women, Family Pet Killed in House Fire

Two women are dead after an early morning house fire in southeast Fort Worth. According to the fire department, the bodies were found inside a home on the 1000 block of Winnie Street. They victims were discovered just after 5 a.m.

According to the fire department, the bodies were found inside a home on the 1000 block of Winnie Street. They victims were discovered just after 5 a.m.

Emergency crews tried to resuscitate the women but were unsuccessful.

Investigators said the victims, identified by family members as 71-year-old Mary Haney and her 39-year-old daughter, Misty Haney, were found on the second floor of the home.

The older victim used a walker and had a hard time getting around, according to her family.

Seven people were inside the home when the fire broke out. Five people managed to escape, including two children.

A family pet was also killed in the fire.

While the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, arson has been ruled out, fire officials said Tuesday afternoon.  The fire is believed to have started upstairs.
