Dallas police are investigating the hit-and-run death of a man who was struck while chasing a tow truck that was towing his car.
Juan Steele, 41, was struck near the intersection of Ledbetter Drive and Corrigan Avenue just before 6 a.m. Witnesses said he was trying to stop a tow-truck driver from taking his car.
The tow-truck driver had picked up a car at the Oasis Apartments, according to police. As the driver tried to exit the complex and head to the nearby storage lot, Steele ran after the tow truck and yelled for the driver to stop, police said.
Witness Orlando Payne said the tow-truck driver tried to swerve out of the way, but Steele was run over by his own car.
As people at a nearby bus stop began screaming, a second car hit Steele in the roadway, police said.
Police said the tow-truck driver and the driver of the second car both left the scene without helping the injured man.
"He ran right over him like he wasn't even there," witness Sandra Donaldson said.
