A Dallas ISD student was among three people injured in a shooting at a high-rise apartment building in Downtown Dallas Thursday afternoon, police and school officials say. There is no information from police on who pulled the trigger or if that person is at large.
Dallas police Lt. Tramese Jones gave a brief statement Thursday afternoon and confirmed officers were called to The Continental at Mercantile Place apartment building at 1801 Commerce Street at about 12:15 p.m. Thursday.
Jones had only limited information to share and confirmed what sources had already reported to NBC 5, that three people had been shot and were hospitalized in unknown conditions.
NBC 5 confirmed Thursday afternoon that one of the victims is a student in the Dallas ISD. The district confirmed a student was hospitalized and is expected to recover, but they shared no information about the student's age. On Friday, the district said the student recently transferred to Emmett J. Conrad High School.

During her brief remarks, Jones said there was no information about the shooter and did not say whether anyone was in custody. Jones said the investigation into the shooting was ongoing and shared nothing about a motive or where the shooting took place.
Residents told NBC 5 that police, along with apartment managers, asked them to evacuate the building.

“I’ve been outside for about four hours trying to get to my house. But they say we can’t get in because somebody got shot and somebody may be dead on the elevator,” said resident Robyn Garcia.
Robyn Garcia said she's been a resident for a little more than a year, and already she's witnessed number of problems in the area.
“It’s always something going on here always that’s nothing new,” she said.
A resident who spoke with our partners at The Dallas Morning News said just after noon she heard gunshots in a nearby residence on the 8th floor. After hearing screaming, she said she hid in her closet and called 911.
Dallas Fire-Rescue said they were assigned the 911 call at 12:18 p.m. and dispatched multiple units, including five rescue units. DFR said that two of those units took patients to the hospital.
Video from Texas Sky Ranger showed at least a dozen Dallas police cars, Dallas Fire-Rescue vehicles and at least three ambulances. Several police and fire officials were seen standing outside the building's entrance on Continental Street.
Traffic along Commerce was blocked off between Ervay and St. Paul streets while the investigation was underway Thursday.
