The State Board of Education is meeting to hear testimony on a curriculum system that some conservatives oppose.
The elected officials will testimony Friday on the program previously known as CSCOPE, which provided lesson plans and tests to teachers to help achieve state education goals.
Conservatives complain that some of the lesson plans are too liberal or anti-American. Supporters say the system is critical for small school districts that lack enough resources to develop their own lesson plans.
CSCOPE was a proprietary system that charged schools districts that used it. The Texas Education Agency made it a publicly available system and dropped the name CSCOPE.
The Texas Legislature also passed a law requiring local school boards to approve any curriculum system before teachers can use it.
