Amber Alert Canceled for 11-Year-Old Missing Girl From Burnet

Child found safe Wednesday, police say

NBCUniversal, Inc.

The AMBER Alert was born in 1996 when local media teamed up with local police to develop an early warning system to find abducted children following the abduction and brutal murder of 9-year-old Amber Hagerman, of Arlington.

An Amber Alert issued for an 11-year-old girl from Burnet has been canceled Wednesday, police say.

According to Burnet police, the girl was found safe Wednesday and is in the custody of law enforcement.

Police are expected to release more information later in the day.

Police said law enforcement officials believe the child to be in grave or immediate danger and were looking for an unknown man in connection with her disappearance. It's not clear if the man is in custody.

Burnet is located in Burnet County, west of Interstate 35 between Fort Hood and Austin.
