Texas's first hybrid-electric fire truck comes to Denton

The Denton Fire Department welcomes the first electric fire truck at a push-in ceremony

The Denton Fire Department is now home to the first hybrid-electric fire truck in Texas.

The department unveiled the new addition, a Pierce Volterra model, at Station One's push-in ceremony on Friday, an event where fire officials celebrate a new truck by pushing it into the station.

Along with zero emissions, the truck manufacturer's website listed reduced noise and fast charging as benefits over a traditional engine.

Denton FD Fire Chief Kenneth Hedges said the truck can run solely on electric or swap to diesel if the truck's battery depletes.

According to Denton FD, this new addition will mark a groundbreaking step toward sustainability and operational efficiency.

The department added that the truck will help protect the health of its firefighters by reducing exposure to carcinogenic emissions like those from diesel-powered fire engines.
