A Central Texas county is challenging a state finding that it must allow firearms to be carried in some areas of a courthouse complex.
McLennan County commissioners on Friday voted to pursue legal action, if necessary, to continue prohibiting firearms at the courthouse and an adjoining annex.
The Waco Tribune-Herald reports a letter from the attorney general's office says the county cannot prohibit licensed handgun holders from entering an entire building simply because courts are located in a portion of a multipurpose building.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton also found the "no guns" signage at the Dallas County government center on Marsh Lane in northwest Dallas to be in violation of state law.
State law says local governments cannot ban people from carrying weapons in their facilities, unless those facilities fall into one of several weapon-free zones.
People can file a complaint with the AG's office if they believe firearms are being improperly banned from a public setting.
