A 13-year-old boy was killed in a crash that closed eastbound Interstate 30 early Thursday morning.
The teen, Hector Hernandez, of McKinney, was riding in the sleeper section of his father's big rig when the rig jumped a median and crashed into a concrete column supporting the Spur 341 (Lockheed Boulevard) bridge east of West Loop 820.
The crash took place just after 1 a.m.
The boy's father, whose name has not yet been released, has been hospitalized in an unknown condition.
Officials said eastbound lanes of I-30 may be closed until Friday night to inspect the shattered bridge support and to conduct repairs.
Crews from the Texas Department of Transportation are working to install temporary colums to shore up the bridge and allow some traffic to pass in the eastbound lanes until the column is repaired.
