The Dottie Lynn Recreation Center in Arlington, Texas, Nov. 8, 2023.

Two juveniles are facing charges after a teenage girl was critically wounded in a shooting outside an Arlington rec center overnight Tuesday.

Arlington Police said officers were called to a shooting outside the Dottie Lynn Recreation Center on the 3200 block of Norwood Lane at about 4:20 a.m. Wednesday.

Officers arrived to find a teenage girl near the pool with an apparent gunshot wound. The girl, whose identity and age have not been confirmed, was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Police confirmed to NBC 5 that the girl underwent surgery Thursday and is expected to survive. Further details about her injury were not released.

Arlington Police said detectives are still investigating the shooting, but so far have learned that a group of teens jumped the fence at the rec center and that the shooting took place as they were gathered near the pool.

Investigators have not said what led to the shooting, but they did confirm they'd identified at least two juveniles who were at the pool when the shooting took place and that they were detained.

Police said one of the detained teens was a girl who was arrested and charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon, evading and criminal trespass. The other teen was a boy who was arrested and charged with criminal trespass.

Both of the teens were transported to the Tarrant County Juvenile Detention Center. Because of their ages, their names will not be released and no further information about their arrests will be released by police.

Officers at the scene found a gun at the rec center, but investigators have not confirmed if it's the gun used in the shooting.

Police said they believe there were several other teens present at the rec center when the shooting occurred. If anyone knows who any of those individuals are or if they have any information about the case they are asked to contact Det. Wheetley at 817-459-5678.
