Grocery Slay Suspects Nabbed in Connecticut

Two suspects wanted in the homicide of a Dallas grocery store owner were caught on the East Coast after a nationwide manhunt.

The suspects were captured in Bridgeport, Conn., after a member of the U.S. Marshal Violent Crime Task Force received a tip that the pair arrived in Bridgeport by bus and were at a relative’s home on Grand Street officials said.

Lamarcus Mathis, 19, and a 17-year-old suspect identified as Don Williams, allegedly killed 64-year-old Jin Him Ha outside of a grocery store she owned with her husband as she was closing the business.

The two took off with a box containing Ha’s uneaten lunch and two boxes of onions, police said.

According to the Dallas Morning News, in a video released by police Ha and her husband can be seen crouching down next to their minivan after noticing a car driving up to the Quick Check grocery store. A man believed to be Mathis snatches a box Ha is carrying while another man believed to be Williams holds a gun in each hand and shoots at the couple. While one man runs away with the box, the other shoots Ha once more.

The video also shows Ha struggling to get up before collapsing in the arms of her husband. She died at Baylor University Medical Center officials said.

Both men were being held as fugitives of justice on a $1 million bond and will be arraigned in Bridgeport Superior Court on Friday.
