Stranded, Homeless Woman Finds Unexpected Help

Keller Police Department Off. Stephen Grossman doesn't see anything special about what he and two other officers did for a homeless woman Wednesday.

The woman, Valerie — who did not give a last name — did.

Off. Chad Allen found Valerie sleeping in her car at a park in the 900 block of Bear Creek Parkway Wednesday. She told the officers her car had broken down.

After Allen's shift was over, he bought a replacement part for Valerie's car and asked Off. Rodney Davis and Off. Stephen Grossman to check on her.

Grossman and Davis tried to fix the vehicle, but saw it needed additional repair. Grossman called a few stores and found one nearby with the parts Valerie's vehicle needed. They tried to finish fixing her car, but couldn't reach one of the parts they needed to replace.

The officers called A A Wrecker Services, who agreed to tow Valerie's vehicle to nearby C & D Automotive Services for free. C & D owner Jim Davis then finished repairing the vehicle at no charge.

Valerie was thrilled when she learned her car had been repaired at no cost and shocked by the officers' generosity. Grossman, though, said he didn't think what he, Allen and Davis did was exceptional.

"We really didn't do anything out of the ordinary because everybody needs help sometimes," he said.
