State Investigating Giant Alligator Hunt

Levi McCathern shot and killed the biggest alligator in Leon County. The reptile might be the biggest gator shot in Texas.

And now the hunter is the hunted.

Texas Fish and Wildlife officials said they are looking into the details of the hunt.

But McCathern's attorney, George Milner, said his client did nothing illegal.

Texas Fish and Wildlife officials won't say what exactly they're investigating in the hunt.

McCathern killed the 900-pound, 14-foot alligator along the Trinity River two hours outside Dallas in Leon County.

"It went right in the brain... It was a perfect shot, probably my luckiest shot," he said earlier this week.

McCathern said then that he had special permission from a private property owner to hunt for alligators.
