Stars Owner: “Time Will Come” for Outdoor Game

Tom Gaglardi says the Stars are in line for an outdoor game

Dallas Stars Owner Tom Gaglardi talks about the team playing an outdoor game.

Dallas Stars owner Tom Gaglardi has some work he wants to get done before his team participates in an outdoor game, but he said recently that they’re headed in that direction—that the time will come for the Stars to participate in an outdoor game.

"Certainly, we're in line for one. That's something we want to do," Gaglardi said. "We're not in a hurry, particularly. We want to have some playoff success and become a perennial playoff team and build our market. The time will come for an outdoor game. I'm not sure when that will be, but we're in line and it's well-discussed between us and the league."

Gaglardi’s plan begins with sustained winning.

When the product on the ice is at a certain level, the market will grow to a certain level and then and only then will it be time for the outdoor game—and the risk that putting on that outdoor game can carry with it for a club.

"It's a big endeavor. You don't want to have one of these things and not sell out. You have to be at a place in the market where you're very comfortable," Gaglardi said. "We've come a long, long way, and I think we'll continue to move in the right direction. There will be a time and a place."
