A Southwest Airlines flight headed to Orlando had to make an unexpected stop at a Long Island airport.
Southwest spokesman Chris Mainz said a flight attendant reported an electrical smell after takeoff Sunday morning.
Flight 693 had left from Bradley International Airport in Connecticut at 7:21 a.m. Sunday bound for Orlando. The cockpit reported a problem shortly after. The plane landed safely at Macarthur Airport just before 8 a.m.
Airport spokeswoman Catherine Green said the 131 passengers and five crew members were all evacuated safely. They boarded another flight and continued to Florida shortly before 10 a.m.
Mainz said the plane was taken out of service and would be examined.
