Fort Worth police diverted a homecoming parade after an officer spotted a gunshot victim along the route. Police said they monitored the area near Eastern Hills High School Friday afternoon when they discovered a person who had been shot.

Fort Worth police diverted a parade of students from Eastern Hills High School Friday afternoon after an officer spotted a gunshot victim along the parade route.

Police officer Buddy Calzada said officers were in the area assisting with the parade through the Eastern Hills neighborhood when an officer out in front of the parade spotted a man suffering from a gunshot wound.

The parade was diverted, and the kids were directed back to the high school, where the campus was put on a soft lockdown.

Fort Worth police say no students were harmed and the lockdown has since been lifted.

Police confirmed officers were securing the area in front of the parade when they found the injured man near the intersection of Meadowbrook Drive and Weiler Boulevard/Yeager Street and called for backup.

Calzada said investigators think the shooting took place a couple of blocks away and were working to secure surveillance video, shell casings, and any other evidence.

Police said the victim was hospitalized in critical condition and that he was not affiliated with the school or the parade.
