Russ Martin Coming Back to DFW Radio?

Russ Martin is coming back to DFW radio this summer, according to a report by the Dallas Observer's Richie Whitt.

Whitt cites two radio industry sources who said that CBS Radio and Clear Channel Communications are in negotiations for the deal with Martin to host a morning show on his old station, KEGL 97.1 The Eagle.  Martin previously worked for the Eagle from 1987-2000.

Martin was taken off the air in 2008 when his old station, Live 105.3, switched to sports talk. He had been with the station since 2000.

In the summer of 2009, Martin pleaded no contest to charges of domestic assault against his girlfriend. The charges were filed in 2008 shortly before his show was canceled on Live 105.3

In an interview with NBC DFW last summer, Martin said the public doesn't know that his girlfriend filed a complaint about the police after his arrest. In it, she questions "the motivation of the Southlake Police Department" in handling the arrest.

"If I saw the police report and everything that came out, I'd go, 'Dude, he did it,' but the inside story is, there was never an investigation," Martin said.

Martin and his girlfriend, who at last check were still together, moved out of Southlake and to Collin County.

A message to Martin has, at the time of this writing, not been returned.
