The city of Rowlett has contracted Crowder Gulf, a company which specializes in disaster debris removal, to help with tornado clean up.
Crowder Gulf trucks began hauling away debris on Monday. The trucks are larger than Rowlett dump trucks and can hold 10 to 12 times the capacity.
"There's still a lot of trash and building materials on the curb, so if they take all that away, that's a great thing," said tornado victim Dyon Drain. "We've been waiting on this. It's very encouraging."
In rural communities, including Copeville and Nevada, Collin County is coordinating with volunteers to pick up debris from victims' homes.
"It's been on the individuals or the volunteer groups who pick it up and take it away," said Nevada tornado victim Karen Monitto. "We pay taxes. It'd be nice if the county could get out here with their trucks and take it away."
Monitto said volunteers have helped her and her neighbors affected by the tornado move forward with clean up.
"At one time, there was 100 people picking up trash that was over here and taking it away," Monitto said.
