Red Cross Responds To Backlash With $400 Emergency Harvey Relief

Families impacted by Harvey can now apply for emergency aid with the Red Cross.

The American Red Cross is responding to weeks of criticism in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey by launching a program to help impacted families.

Some storm survivors have expressed frustration with the agency, claiming they never received help or funding.

Beginning Thursday, the Red Cross will help impacted families across 39 counties by offering $400 in emergency relief to thousands of families. Qualified applicants will be eligible for the money to support emergency needs.

Assistance will be made available using several methods, including MoneyGram, Walmart and PayPal.

Registration will remain open through Oct. 10.
