Rangers Reach Agreement With Draft Pick Sam Huff

It was a dream come true for Phoenix Arcadia (AZ) High School catcher, Sam Huff, after hearing his name called during the 2016 Major League Baseball Draft. Now came decision time.

Huff was selected in the seventh round (219th overall) by the Rangers, but also signed on to play at Grand Canyon University. Would he go pro or go to college?

Sounds like Huff made his decision, agreeing to terms with the Rangers on Friday.

The 6-foot-4, 218-pound catcher put up impressive numbers this season at Arcadia, hitting .554 with 14 home runs and 49 RBI. However, it wasn’t just the on-field talent the Rangers scouts loved. West Coast cross-checker Casey Harvie stated that Huff was a “well-above-average makeup kid.”

Huff said he had been talking to the Rangers since the beginning of the year, so he had a good feeling they would take him at some point in the draft.

The Rangers have now reached agreements with 27 of the 40 draft selections, including 13 of the top 14 picks.
