Police: Team of Thieves May Be Behind Rash of Car Burglaries

Police say a team of thieves may be behind a rash of car burglaries in Allen.

Almost a dozen car burglaries were reported within hours of each other in a single night. Police said they believe a team of thieves is responsible for at least 10 burglaries.

Allen police said they all happened in the same general vicinity -- close to Stacy Road, Watters Road, Highway 121 and U.S. 75.

Sgt. John Felty said the burglaries are a crime of opportunity.

"You have the Allen Premium Outlets, a motel, a health club, a movie theater and, in the middle, you have a residential neighborhood," he said.

Six vehicles within an upscale Allen neighborhood were targeted. Felty said the thieves smashed windows and stole what they want.

Because the car burglaries happened so fast and within close proximity to each other, Felty said he believes a group of thieves could be working together.

"They are breaking into vehicles in the same manner," he said. "They seem to be interested in purses, wallets, not the electronics they usually are."

Allen police said people should not leave valuables in their vehicles.
