1 Dead When Fort Worth-Bound Plane Crashes in Oklahoma

A single-engine plane traveling to Fort Worth Spinks Airport from Springfield, Missouri crashed in Oklahoma Sunday afternoon, killing a man, a Federal Aviation Administration spokesman said.

The Beechcraft Bonanza was carrying a husband and wife when it went down five miles southeast of Colbert, Oklahoma at about 3 p.m., according to Lynn Lunsford, FAA spokesman.

"I talked to one neighbor who said he saw the plane go over, and he said the motor cut out and died," Colbert resident Gaylon Montgomery said. "He said it was quiet as it was cutting through the air, kind of like a glider."

Authorities with the Oklahoma Highway patrol confirm with NBC 5 that one man on board the plane was killed. He was later identified as 64-year-old Charles S Fehr, of Fort Worth.

Fehr's wife, 64-year-old Vicki Fehr, was taken to Medical Center of Plano. At last check Monday morning, she was listed in critical condition.

FAA investigators were called to the crash site, and the National Transportation Safety Board has been notified and will take the lead in the investigation, Lunsford said.
